It Needs To Be Said
Dr Bobby Braile
This
article may upset a few people. It may upset a lot of people, but, "It
needs to be said". Some of those that this pertains to are
dear and close friends of mine. Some are leaders, some are mentors, but,
It needs to be said. I do not intent to judge or to
offend, but to hopefully offer a point of reflection, and, It needs
to be said.
I
travel quite a lot in chiropractic. Many weekends per year, I am at
various seminars, conferences, conventions, meetings and just about every
other form of gathering in this profession. I get to speak to a
wide variety of DCs from all sides of the profession. Some practice
completely differently than I would by including a variety of therapeutic
modalities and treatments. Their practices are more along the
therapeutic model, and not geared toward subluxation correction for the
enhancement of innate potential. And while I disagree with this mode of
practice, I clearly understand where they were coming from.
Not so
clear, and on the other side of this equation are the "principled" chiropractors.
These are the chiropractors I see at New Beginnings, DE, and various ICA affiliated state and
national events. These are my brothers and sisters who have fought
so many battles by my side and have stood fast for the principles we claim
to love. So that is why it bothers me so much to see so many
sliding toward the therapeutic side.
Now, at
many conventions I see decompression machines, cold lasers, tens units,
and a variety of other therapeutic devices that would have been shunned
just a few short years ago. I see those who stood by my side as
"principled" chiropractors shelling out 100K for a decompression device.
I see more of my friends putting massage into their practices, selling
Mona Vie, and getting into all kinds of other non chiropractic
enterprises, in their practices. I see chiropractic meetings with
secret second meetings designed to recruit other DCs into multi level
marketing schemes. I hear of principled DCs getting out of practice
to sell juice. I'm sorry but Something needs to be said!
We have
been given the most precious gift of chiropractic. Why would we
want to do anything less than that in a chiropractic office. The
MOST IMPORTANT thing a chiropractor can do is to correct vertebral
subluxations. No other therapy, procedure, juice or treatment, can
even come close to the miracles that happen when a properly delivered,
"specific scientific chiropractic adjustment" is given. Why then is
so much of our profession, so many of our principled friends, sliding
over to the dark side and then rationalizing this decision.
The
unfortunate truth I hear when someone talks about these procedures is
money. I have yet to hear anyone in chiropractic tell me that a
decompression machine helps a patient with lower back pain faster than
specific scientific chiropractic adjustments. All I hear about is how
much money this can make. In fact, I venture to say, that even
though adjustments are not designed for pain relief, patients get faster
relief with good chiropractic than with a 100K stretching machine. I'd be
happy to test this statement. Get 20 patients with disc problems,
you take 20 and I'll take 20. Lets see whose patients get faster
relief.
Money
is the bottom line here. I'm not suggesting that my friends who have
now added these things into their practices are money grubbing DCs who
have lost the principle. In fact, most of them still own the
principle in their heart, and talk the talk. However, now added to
that talk, is a rationalization to include their new ventures. I am
suggesting that if a rationalization is needed, then there is a conflict
within you.
I
believe God called us to be chiropractors. I believe we were given
the most precious gift of being able to deliver a specific scientific
chiropractic adjustment. I believe that NOTHING is more powerful,
or more important to give to a world that is sick and suffering.
Why then would so many, choose to do less, when they can deliver the
pinnacle of health care. Why settle for less, when you were given
more.
I did
not intent to offend, but if you were offended I suggest that the offence
my be generated by the conflict you feel within. I do not
apologize. I may be accused of looking at things through rose
colored glasses, but I believe...

Old Story That I Was Told as
a Child
by Dr.
Jim Dubel
This
is an old story that I was told as a child, it is just as true today as
it was back in the 1950's. I guess its
time to share it once more with everyone here.
A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign
advertising the 4 pups And set about nailing it to a post on the edge of
his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on
his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of little boy.
'Mister,' he said, 'I want to buy one of your puppies.' 'Well,' said the
farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, 'These puppies
come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.'
The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his
pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer.
'I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?'
'Sure,' said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. 'Here,
Dolly!' he called.
Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little
balls of fur. The little boy pressed his face against the chain link
fence. His eyes danced with delight.
As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something
else stirring inside the doghouse. Slowly another little ball appeared,
this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid Then in a somewhat
awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing
its best to catch up.
'I want that one,' the little boy said, pointing to the runt. The farmer
knelt down at the boy's side and said, 'Son, you don't want that puppy.
He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs
would.'
With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and
began rolling up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel
! brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a
specially made shoe.
Looking back up at the farmer, he said, 'You see sir, I don't run too
well myself, and he will need someone who understands.'
With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little
pup. Holding it carefully handed it to the little boy.
'How much?' asked the little boy.
'No charge,' answered the farmer,
'There's no charge for love.'
The world is full of people who need someone who understands.
As Chiropractors we are blessed to be that someone in our office.
Listen, love and understand that our patients come to us because we are
(in many cases) the only person who may care for them, who may be of
service to them, loves them and understands them. Chiropractic is an
amazing profession. Look for its miracles and
opportunities every day!
All My Love,
Loyalty and Friendship.
