MD's Being Encouraged to Email
Patients
In two articles from Medscape Medical News, that appeared on Web MD, medical doctors are being urged to use email to communicate more with their patients. The two articles dated Dec. 12, 2002 and Jan. 16, 2003 reported that experts at the 14th annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care said, "Instead of shunning patients who turn to the Internet to get information about their health, physicians should learn to collaborate with them to improve the quality of their care and better disseminate new knowledge about illnesses and treatments".
In one of the articles Tom Ferguson, MD, a senior research fellow of online health for the Pew Internet and American Life Project stated, "Internet-empowered patients, or 'e-patients' have a completely different view than physicians of the value of the Internet for seeking credible information about their health." According to a 2001 Pew Research study titled "Online Health Care Revolution," nearly all patients (92%) said they found the information they were looking for online, 88% said the information they found online improved the way they took care of their health, and 81% said they learned something new about their health as a result of their research.
Additionally,
a recent study by physicians in the University of Michigan Health System found
that both physicians and patients participating in the study believed e-mail
improved their communication about the patients' treatment. Rheumatologist
Joseph Weiss, MD, was quoted in the American Medical News
on the issue when he said, "Whether it's efficient
or not is not the issue for me. If [a patient] wants e-mail, I'll do it. I'm in
a very competitive market; I'm not about to antagonize people."

Initially, the chiropractic profession was leading the way in the use of the Internet. However, at present the medical profession has caught on and has surpassed chiropractic in Internet usage. Recent studies show that 29% of all MDs now have a website. And according to the articles cited above, they are being encouraged to use email as well.

New Now You Know Introduces
New Web Templates
At Now You Know we do sleep, just not to much or too often. We are now introducing three new website templates and have updated others. These new templates create a vivid image of simplicity and color, while offering easy navigation for viewers to these sites.
With the addition of these new templates we now offer a
total of 33 templates for our subscribers to choose from. Yes the number
33 was chosen on purpose. In honor of the fact that there are 33 original
principles in chiropractic we at NYK decided that 33 would be a good number to
offer. The three new templates are called the "Titan",
"Mercury", and the "Shamrock".
I'll
imagine you can tell for yourself which one of these corresponds to the
thumbnail pictures at right.
Additionally, we continue to update our existing templates by replacing certain templates with even newer and more appealing issues. "The Sky" and "Old Glory" (seen left) are the newest to be added for you to choose from. The "Sky" template is designed to offer a crisp silver-grey open look. The "Old Glory" is a patriotic color arrangement of red white and blue with backgrounds of stars and stripes.

When viewing these website templates, please keep in mind that we encourage all our subscribers to customize their own websites as much as possible with different pictures and text that make your website unique to you and your office. Unlike some other website companies, we do not want you to have a website that looks like an adaptation of a generic website. We want you to have your own website that reflects your personality and your office.
