Life University Up Against Final Deadline

Over the last several years Life University has endured loss of CCE accreditation, only to gain it back in a court battle. They have lived through the removal of their founder, Dr Sid Williams.  They have changed presidents 3 times in just two years.  They have survived an all but completed deal to sell the entire campus to neighboring Southern Tech, only to get it back again when the state of Georgia nixed the deal.  They have defaulted on their debt, and had it restructured again. But probably the most severe blow has been the loss of 70% of their student population. 

Through all this adversity, Life University seems to have 9 lives as they continue to escape the "death of Life" by the narrowest of margins. Now, under their new President, Dr Guy Riekeman, Life seems to be heading in the right direction, with enrollment finally turning upward again.  However, there remains another major obstacle to overcome.

The obstacle that Life must clear is to show the regional accrediting agency "SACS" (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) that Life has a balanced budget for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2004.  If Life shows a balanced budget, they are almost assured accreditation.  If they do not, their chances are 50/50 that they will lose SACS accreditation.

If Life loses SACS, they close!  It is as simple as that.  If they raise the money, they have finally crossed the last major hurdle and they will survive as with the enrollment increases, finances will not be a critical issue next year.  So it all comes down to around one month.

We at Now You Know believe in leading by example.  We have given a considerable amount of money to this worthy cause.  I am not personally a Life graduate, but I understand well how disastrous it would be for our once largest institution to close.  Imagine what the medical profession will say about our profession if Life closes.  Imagine what lawmakers will say about our education.

We are urging all chiropractors who care about chiropractic to dig deep and make a donation to this worthy cause.  Your donation will make a difference.  This moment in our history is crucial to the future of chiropractic.  Please do whatever you can.

Why I Recommend Now You Know; by Dr. Tim Zook
