The Season of Giving

It is that time of year again.  The time when the holidays seem to be a buzz with activities and festivities. For most of us, there is also a more spiritual meaning to the holidays that underlines our reasons for these days in the first place.  But if you are reading this, you have one thing in common with the rest of us.  You are part of the chiropractic profession.

During the holidays, we think of giving.  And in case you have not noticed, that is what most of you do in your office.  Think about it for a minute.  When a patient comes into your office on any given visit, do you prescribe an adjustment?  No you "give" an adjustment.  Isn't it odd that with all the choices of words, the most common usage for our care is to "give"?

Does a surgeon give surgery?  Does a dentist give a filling?  Does a medical doctor actually give medications, or does he or she prescribe them?  Isn't it interesting that the only profession that uses the term give for their main mode of service is chiropractic? So, even though this is the season of giving, in chiropractic, it is always the season of giving.

You say you do not believe in Santa Claus? Dear fellow colleagues, you are Santa Claus!  Sometimes we forget the absolute miracles that we are privileged to witness after we "give" an adjustment.  You are Santa Claus as you bring a smile to peoples' faces and restore hope and function to so many.  And you do have two advantages over Santa. First, you do not have to climb down chimneys. Imagine the subluxations that would cause!  And second, you actually get paid for what you do.

So, as we celebrate this season of giving, let us not forget that for us, this season never really ends.

Now You Know Adding Video to the Web

Starting next year, be prepared to see some video on the NYK websites.  As technology continues to move forward, so are we.  Already in production is a new feature known as "Ask The Experts".  This new feature will include short videos designed for patients that answer some of the most common questions that patients and prospective patients seem to ask.

Imagine your patients having the ability to hear about subluxation from Dr. Jim Sigafose.  How about people in your community learning about the importance of chiropractic for children and infants from Dr. Dick Plummer, or Dr. Jeanne Ohm.  Maybe your patients will get excited about hearing how chiropractic can help in athletic performance from Dr. Pete Gratale.  These are just some of the experts that have already contributed to the NYK Ask The Experts section and will appear in this new feature.

But that's not all.  With the addition of Flash video, you can now add a short greeting video from you to visitors to your website.  Imagine the personal touch that is added to your website when visitors can play a short greeting from you.

All this starts in January, so watch the NYK website for more details and samples of how you can have this new feature added.  Video on the web?  Technology has just taken a huge step forward, and your patients and your community are the winners!

A New Year - A New Beginnings

Each year, we get the opportunity to start over with the initiation of a new year.  Fortunately for us, the same is true in our chiropractic practices.  I have always believed that fulfillment in chiropractic go hand in hand with the very principles that our profession are based on.

These are the basic teachings of the seminar known as New Beginnings. This program, held three times a year, says it all in their mission statement, " New Beginnings is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and perpetuating philosophically based principled Chiropractic without compromise, innately serving mankind, while enhancing the quality of life today, creating a healthier more perfect world."

How much clearer could it be?  Honestly, those who know me know I have a very extensive travel schedule.  I am away from home more weekends than I am home.  So, when I say that I go to New Beginnings because I want to, not because of business, I am speaking from my heart.  From the non-profit board, to the speakers, to the attendees, I feel that I have a family at New Beginnings. You can, too.

If you have never been to one of these, or if has been a while, I invite you to return, and I hope to see you there. The next New Beginnings will be held from January 26-29th 2006. For more information, you can visit their website at www.newbeginningschiro.com . Happy New Years, and a Happy New Beginning!!!

Health News

Each month, we at Now You Know review hundreds of articles on health and chiropractic in order to find the few that we write up for our patient newsletter service. Unfortunately, there are always dozens of good health articles that do not make it into the NYK Patient newsletter that our subscriber's patients receive. This section of the Information Age will be the place where we list these and other interesting health related articles and link to them.
