ICA
Adds Parker College As An Official Affiliate Institution The ICA list of affiliate chiropractic institutions has grown from 6 to 7 colleges. Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, has become a formal affiliate of the International Chiropractors Association (ICA). ICA’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to accept Parker’s application to become an affiliated college on June 28 th, 2005, and enthusiastically welcomed Parker College into the official ICA College community. “We look forward to an exciting period of close cooperation with Parker College and all of our affiliated educational institutions, to build a stronger, brighter future for future generations of chiropractors,” said ICA President Dr. John K. Maltby. “ ICA is deeply honored by the new relationship with Parker College and appreciates and respects the expression of support by the Parker College leadership for ICA’s vision for the chiropractic profession this new status represents,” he said. " Parker College of Chiropractic is honored to be accepted as an affiliate educational institution of the ICA. We look forward to the continued collaborative efforts with the ICA and other affiliate institutions to help in the advancement of the Chiropractic profession." said Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker College. The seven schools that are now ICA affiliates are Palmer Davenport, Palmer West, Life University, Life Chiropractic College West, Cleveland Chiropractic College KC, and Cleveland Chiropractic College West. |

National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) Offers Online Course in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)
This online course offers a certificate of completion upon completion of all test chapters and the course evaluation. In the introduction, the lead lecturer states "Complementary and alternative medicine involves a diverse array of practices that are outside the realm of conventional medicine. Despite the differences between them, what they have in common is that they have yet to be validated using scientific methods." This course represents a possible danger to chiropractic as any of our profession's traditional enemies could take the course, complete the certification, and then claim to be experts at CAM which they claim includes chiropractic. This may allow them to have influence in many forums and have an effect on our profession. Additionally, this course, coming from the US Federal government's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), could mean that this is the official view of our profession. The course is free and can be started on their website at http://nccam.nih.gov/videolectures/ . We urge that DCs take this course so that we are not faced in opposition to people claiming to be experts at CAM and chiropractic.

Now You Know Helps Your Patients Make Referrals If your practice is like most, almost every day you have a patient ask you something like this, "Doc, I have this neighbor whose kid has asthma bad. I'd really like for them to come in to see you. Do you have anything you can give me to give to them?" . This situation usually
sends you digging around your office for the pamphlet on asthma. If you
can find it you hope that it finds it's way to the asthmatic kids mom and
that that is enough to get that mom to bring in her child for chiropractic
care. The reality is that the chances of that mom getting the
pamphlet is slim, and the chances that one pamphlet is enough to convince
that mom to have her bring her sick child to a chiropractor is even
slimmer. The reality is that today most people are using the Internet to research health topics. So chances are good that the mother of a sick child has been searching the Internet for information that would help her asthmatic child. Knowing this you can use this information to help that mother and your practice. In my practice, when I got that question from a current patient, my answer became, "I have 12 articles on my website on that. Please tell that mom to look there and she'll get help." I would then give my patient my office web address ( www.brailechiropractic.com ) and off they would go to help make that referral. Your patients want to send people they know to you. Until now, they usually did not have enough information to help convince many people to decide on chiropractic care. We at Now You Know understand that the Internet has become the major source of health information in today's society. This is why each of our subscribers websites comes packed with over 900 pages of articles, information and educational features to help you better educate your patients and your community. If you previously have considered a website as an advertisement, we at NYK want to expand your horizon to see the real benefits of using the Internet - EDUCATION !!! Visit www.nowyouknow.net to learn how you can be a part of the education revolution, and help the world learn about the benefits of chiropractic. |

Health News Each month, we at Now You Know review hundreds of articles on health and chiropractic in order to find the few that we write up for our patient newsletter service. Unfortunately, there are always dozens of good health articles that do not make it into the NYK Patient newsletter that our subscriber's patients receive. This section of the Information Age will be the place where we list these articles and link to them.
