More Experts to Ask

Since we introduced the "Ask The Experts" feature last month, we have been continuing to collect short videos of chiropractic experts answering common patient questions.  We have been privileged to have so many of the recognized figures in chiropractic contribute their time and expertise to this educational feature.

Ask The Experts uses the newest Flash movie technology. This allows doctor's with an NYK website to have experts speak directly to their website viewers.

Dr. John Maltby

Dr. Reggie Gold

Dr. Jeannie Ohm

Dr. Dean DePice

Dr. Jack Barnathan

Dr. Eric Kaplan

Dr. Tom Deters

Dr. Gerry Mattia

Mr. Ron Hendrickson

Dr. Eric Plasker

Dr. Jim Sigafoose

Dr. Claudia Anrig

Dr. Peter Gratale

Dr. Dick Plummer

Dr. Christopher J. Colloca

Dr. Kevin Fogarty

Dr. Jay Handt

Dr. Jeff Slocum

With an NYK website your patients have the ability to hear about subluxation from Dr. Jim Sigafoose (picture below right).   Think about how excited your patients will get when hearing how chiropractic can help in athletic performance from Dr. Pete Gratale (picture above right). These are just two of the growing list of experts that have already contributed to the NYK Ask The Experts section and appear in this new feature.

Now for the first time the chiropractic profession has the opportunity to showcase the experts in our profession and get their message to your patients and the general public.  To see how this cutting-edge new technology and educational feature can work to help you educate your practice members and your community, please go to our website at www.nowyouknow.net and click on the Website Service link, and then on the "Ask the Experts" feature link.  And be sure to watch the website as we will be adding additional experts on an ongoing basis.

State of Florida Warns Public About Unlicensed Chiropractors

The state of Florida, has started a billboard campaign warning people of the dangers of unlicensed chiropractors. These billboards are not the work of some chiro-hating group funded by medical money.  These are from the Florida Department of Health.

According to the Florida Department of Health, this campaign is for six months and ends on 6-30-2006 at the end of their fiscal year.  Chiropractic is not the only profession with this campaign as Medicine is spending $301,000 for their campaign titled "Don't put your life in the wrong hands", and Nursing has $2.7 million earmarked for their unlicensed activities education program.  Other professions programs may not involve billboards.

In response to this campaign, the Florida Chiropractic Society hired Mr. Bill Hebrock a legislative consultant to look into the matter. In an email to Dr. Tim Zook, FCS - PAC President, Mr. Hebrock explained, "These chiropractic billboards were, in fact, paid for by the State of Florida (DOH) through a public/private partnership with the Florida Outdoor Advertising Association (FOA) which donated the actual billboard and bus stop advertising space."  He also noted that the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine had a final approval of the Billboard content.  To see Hebrock's entire letter please click here.

The Florida Chiropractic Society also responded in their publication.  To read this story from the Florida Chiropractic News please click here.

In order to clarify the situation I called Dr. Sal LaRusso, the President of the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine (yes that is their official name in Florida).  I sent him several questions concerning this issue.  He answered all the questions and added several comments below:

Bob,

You and I have been involved in Chiropractic for many years and we both share the same vision and love for our profession. I can tell you that our board reviewed this campaign appropriately and meant to put forth a campaign that was intended to educate the public about ULA (unlicensed activity) and not in any way demean the profession we all love.

I am not happy about the controversy about the wording or the icon on the billboards but the meetings were public and input was encouraged and incorporated from those who attend meetings, read the agenda books and monitor the website. We had many good comments from the participants and hope that in the future all interested parties will give input at the appropriate time so the board might consider all comment and suggestions.

As you know the mission of the FL BOC is to protect the public.

Sal

A Special Thank You to New Beginnings

Dr. BJ Harman and myself want to extend a special thank you to the Board, and doctors of New Beginnings.   At the last meeting in New Jersey on January 28th, 2006 the New Beginnings board bestowed on us the distinction of an honorary "PhC" (Philosopher of Chiropractic) degree.

Only several times per year, the new Beginnings Board bestows this honor to a select few Chiropractors who have contributed to the body of chiropractic philosophy and the New Beginnings movement. At the January meeting they gave "PhCs" to Dr. BJ Harman, Dr. Carol Iaizzi, and myself.

On behalf of Dr. Harman and myself, we feel deeply honored and humbled by this act. I can honestly say it was one of the few times I have ever seen BJ Harman speechless!   When we look at those who have received the PhC. in the past we can only feel humbled by the list of those who have also received this honor.

The New Beginnings meetings are a special place to share with those who love the philosophy of chiropractic and keep it deep in their heart. These meetings are about growing philosophically, professionally, as well as in your practice.  We recommend New Beginnings to everyone.  For more information, please go to their website at www.newbeginningschiro.com.  We hope to see you at their next meeting April 23 - 26, 2006.
