Chiropractic Depot Now Open ! Happy Birthday Chiropractic! To coincide with Chiropractic Founders Day, and after 2 years and countless development hours Chiropractic Depot is now open! This groundbreaking service was written from the ground up as a unique offering to the chiropractic profession and the health minded community. Each year, billions of dollars of health and wellness related products are sold to the public. However, most of these products do not see the chiropractic profession as a major source of revenue generation. Chiropractic Depot is designed to bring the health and wellness industry together with the chiropractic profession. It is time we get this multi billion dollar industry on our side! There are two storefronts available on Chiropractic Depot. The first is the Consumer Storefront that is housed inside doctors' websites and carries health and wellness products for sale to viewers to the doctors' websites. Visitors can purchase items from the storefront inside your NYK website and have these items shipped by the manufacturers directly to their address. For each sale that is made on your NYK website, you will earn a commission. The second type of storefront is a Professional Storefront that will be on the various association and group websites that Now You Know hosts. On the Professional Storefront Chiropractors can make purchases of supplies and products that they need for their office, and the respective association will earn a commission from the sale. Doctors with the Now You Know website can have their service upgraded to include the Chiropractic Depot. DC2BE.com, New Student Resource Site Going Strong Since the introduction last month students are flocking to the new resource website, www.DC2BE.com. DC2BE.com has opened as a major student resource and open forum for chiropractic students everywhere. So far over 500 viewers have made over 3000 visits to the various posted forums. The most used portion of the site are the open forums which allows students to place posts and communicate with each other while sharing ideas, thoughts, and information. The forums are divided into various topics for easy access. Some of the forums include Student Life, Clubs, Events, Boards and Exams, Philosophy, Science, Art/Technique and a specific forum for each college. In order to place a post on the DC2BE website, students and other visitors must first login to the site. Registering is FREE and gives you total access to the many features and articles available. Currently there are over 100 registered members of the site. All member information is kept strictly confidential and not transmitted to anyone. In addition to the open forums there are other student resources that include helpful links, a classifieds section, and more. As time continues we will continue to add information, documents and other resources that will be of value to students. We invite all students and doctors to become members of DC2BE and join the experience!

Drug Companies Spent $29.9 billion in 2005 on Promotions In an effort to continue to educate chiropractic patients, the NYK September patient email newsletter carried a story about the huge increase in promotional spending by the drug companies. The study published in the August 16, 2007 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, (NEJM) noted that in spite of increasing criticisms, direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs continues to increase in the US. It should be noted that presently only the United States and New Zealand allow drug makers to advertise prescription medications directly to consumers. Just to give you an idea of the scale, this study showed that total spending on pharmaceutical promotion grew from $11.4 billion in 1996 to $29.9 billion in 2005. During that time spending by drug companies on direct-to-consumer advertising increased by 330%. In comparison, the best available estimates are that the entire chiropractic profession only grosses about 9 billion a year! The good news (strong sarcasm here) is that only 14% of all the drug promotional money was spent on direct-to-consumer advertising. That means that about $4.2 billion was spent on general advertising and the rest of the $29.9 billion was spent convincing doctors to prescribe their drugs! Wouldn't it be nice if the wellness industry spent even a fraction of that amount convincing us DCs to promote their products? But there may be a solution. (More sarcasm on the way) If every chiropractor gave half of everything he or she earned to a campaign for advertising chiropractic to the general public, we could slightly surpass what the drug companies spend on consumer advertising. That is, of course, unless they decided to spend a higher percentage of the almost 30 billion each year to teach people of the lifestyle of better living through chemistry! The NEJM study also exposed an interesting fact regarding the FDA. As most people are aware the FDA has come under fire recently for not protecting the public adequately. (Boy is that an understatement.) According to the study the FDA has actually decreased the number of violation letters they have sent to drug companies. The study claims, "the number of letters sent by the FDA to pharmaceutical manufacturers regarding violations of drug-advertising regulations fell from 142 in 1997 to only 21 in 2006."
