Florida Votes to Accept the National Board

On August 22, 2008 the Florida Board of Chiropractic voted unanimously to peruse adoption of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) Part IV exam with the additional physiotherapy exam for licensure in the state of Florida. Florida was the last holdout state that would not accept the National Board Part IV and required those seeking licensure to take a Florida test.

After hearing and reading testimony from the Florida Department of Testing as well as correspondence from the NBCE the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine (official name in Florida) voted unanimously to accept the NBCE exam for licensure in Florida when the Part IV exam is combined with the optional NBCE physiotherapy exam. The board instructed the board counsel and Department of Testing to peruse agreement with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners to administer future testing after the May 2009 test administration provided contracts and legalities can be worked out.

Last year, the Florida legislature eliminated the ten year rule that previously required doctors who had taken the National Board more than 10 years prior to applying for a Florida license to retake the National Board. Now, all that is required is 4 parts of the National Boards, regardless of how old, and the Florida Laws and Rules test, which will be available at testing centers and may be available online.  This represents a drastic opening of Florida, which previously had a history of being a difficult state to obtain licensure.

These changes should go into effect after May of 2009. Currently the November 2008 and May 2009 Florida Board exams are scheduled and set to take place. However once legal agreement has been reached between the Florida Board and the NBCE to administer NBCE Part IV along with the physiotherapy exams future testing will thereafter replace the Florida exam for licensure.

How Do ADJUSTable Websites Work?

Over the past few weeks I have had a lot of questions from doctors about asking how do these adjustable websites work? I will spend a few minutes here describing the function of them and how our doctors are making the most out of them.

  • Spine 1 - This olive green and black sharp looking website features an explaining and collapsing spinal image that continually adds action to your website.
  • Sunset - Feel the peace as the sun sets across the top of the website in a gold and red setting.  This site makes you feel the light of health.
  • Relief - This professional looking website has changing healthy sayings that continually repeat at the header of the website to add action and information.
  • Pediatric - For those whose message is chiropractic for children, we have a website theme for you.  This website has the look that attracts the pediatric practice with stars and circles continually moving at the top of the site.
  • Sunflower - If growing sunflowers in a green field with clouds flowing by welcome you, then imagine what this website will do for your patients.
  • Sports - Baseball, football, soccer, or golf this website has active images for you. If your practice specializes in this area, do we have a theme for you.

Patient Education in the 21st Century

In the most recent issue of the ICA Review, is an article I wrote called "Patient Education in the 21st Century".  I felt privileged to be asked to write this article, but more privileged to share my knowledge and experience with the ICA reader.

The article begins, "There are a few things we need to recognize relative to how chiropractic is perceived in the healthcare marketplace. We also need to understand that today’s healthcare consumer is much more discerning when it comes to spending their precious financial resources on healthcare of any kind. With almost 50 million Americans without healthcare insurance, paying for any healthcare becomes a careful selection process for most consumers."
