Is Sherman College following in the footsteps of Life?
A story that broke in the January 14, 2008 issue of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal online GoUpstate.com, reports that college officials were notified in December of the dire news. The article notes that the school was told of the results, but has not received official notification. According to the article Sherman is now the only school in South Carolina with a "warning" status from SACS. The article quotes Dr. Jon Schwartzbauer, the new president of Sherman, who has only held the position since August 13, 2007, his response to the news was, "We were extremely disappointed. Obviously, we're going to do whatever we can, use whatever resources available to us, to make sure that we fulfill whatever deficiency we might have according to (SACS), and again, we don't know what those are yet. We're confident we'll get through." Since SACS has not sent official notification, Sherman does not know what all the deficiencies are that brought upon the warning status from SACS. According to the GoUpstate article, Belle Wheelan, president of the Commission on Colleges for SACS states that Sherman must create a "Quality Enhancement Plan", or QEP to show how student learning will be increased or enhanced. Wheelan commented, "The commission feels it's something they can clean up in a short period of time since they're only on (warning) for six months, I have great faith that the institution will fix it." Somewhere over 5 years ago, Life University was placed on probation by SACS. This was then followed by a denial of reaccreditation by CCE. Currently the CCE lists Sherman as a member and shows no accreditation issues with Sherman on their website.

Do we have to re-write the Chiropractic history books?
According to a December 19, 2007 article on the newsdurhamregion.com, from Canada, DD Palmer was not born in Port Perry but was actually born in Pickering Ontario on March 7, 1845. Palmer College has their website up to date as they state the following, "Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer was born in Pickering, Ontario, which is located close to Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, on March 7, 1845. The family soon moved to Port Perry and lived there until they emigrated to the United States. To honor their native son, the town of Port Perry dedicated Palmer Memorial Park at a ceremony that 1,500 townspeople and chiropractors witnessed in a drenching rainstorm on July 28, 1938." In spite of the new recognition that Pickering is the birthplace of the founder of our profession, the memorial commemorating DD's birth mistakenly shows Port Perry as the place he was born.

Giving Back to Chiropractic
As you may be aware, Now You Know handles the needs of many chiropractic groups and associations when it comes to their Internet presence. I feel honored and humbled that so many trust us. And just to be clear, we do not accept money from these groups. You see, we are chiropractors. We believe that it is our responsibility to give back to the profession that has given so much to us. We also have a passion on spreading the chiropractic message. We are NOT a website company that has gotten into chiropractic. We are Chiropractors who own a Chiropractic Company, that uses websites, and other tools to spread the Chiropractic message. Below is a list of some of those we serve. And our offer continues to stand. If any other chiropractic associations would like our help, please call us. |
