Life University will be holding a Founder's Day Program on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11 A. M., and Drs. Sid and Nell Williams are the special invited guests. Dr. Sid will be speaking at this event. He has not spoken on the Life Campus since leaving in 2002. Dr. Guy Riekeman, President of Life University, will be holding an all school assembly in the Life U gym to accommodate the expected volume of students and visiting doctors who will want to hear Dr. Sid speak at Life for the first time in over seven years.
The date coincides with
the first day of the January 2010 "DE" (Dynamic
Essentials) meeting to begin later that evening at
the Embassy Suites in downtown Atlanta. It is expected
that hundreds of "DE doctors" will arrive early for
the De Meeting so they can attend the special founders
program at Life U. It was the support of DE doctors, under the leadership of Dr. Williams, that created Life University. Now, under their current president, Dr. Guy Riekeman, Life is once again the largest chiropractic institution in the world. Life was founded in 1974 and grew to be the largest chiropractic school, at one point boasting over 3200 students in the DC program. In 2002 the school temporarily lost their CCE (Council on Chiropractic Education) accreditation and the Board of Trustees removed Dr. Williams as president. Since those tumultuous days, the Williams have never officially returned to the campus. Is New Mexico Creating a Separate Class of Advanced Chiropractors?
The state has changed it's state law to create a new and "advanced" form of chiropractor. Directly from the state law this now reads, “Certified advanced practice chiropractic physician” means advanced practice chiropractor who shall have prescriptive authority for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes as authorized by statute and stated by the board." You can see a copy of the law here. If these doctors are advanced, what does that make the rest of us? The ACA seems to have embraced this concept in their October 07, 2009 press release which says in part, "Resolutions calling for the creation of a database of doctors of chiropractic with advanced degrees—which could be tapped to find potential candidates for positions in political, research and scientific environments where advanced degrees are normally required—and supporting the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ plan to create certification for an expanded practice chiropractic physician were also passed." As scary as this scenario seems to be, it gets worse as the state of New Mexico has asked the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners to create a test for certifying the "Advanced Chiropractor." I personally find it sad to think there are chiropractors with such an inferiority complex for the practice of chiropractic that they feel they have to add materia medica into their practice to raise their standard. I believe that a chiropractor who specializes in the detection, location and correction of the vertebral subluxation is just about as advanced as it gets! As my departed friend, Dr. Fred Barge, would have said, "Enuf Said!" |
