Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Addresses Chiropractors at ICA Fitness Symposium Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke to a group of about 350 Doctors of Chiropractic and guests in Columbus, Ohio, on March 7, 2009. Each year, the chiropractic profession and the fitness world come together during the Arnold Fitness weekend. Governor Schwarzenegger is a long time proponent of physical fitness and a long time supporter of chiropractic.
At this years event, the Governor spoke about the tough economic times. He commented that in the midst of financially hard times, the chiropractic and fitness professions are both growing. He told the group, "There's a financial crisis, there's an unemployment crisis, there's a housing crisis, there's a mortgage crisis, there's as many crisis as you can think of, except in chiropractic and in fitness, and at the Arnold Classic." The Arnold Fitness weekend is held each year in Columbus and boasts some 17,000 athletes. In comparison, the most recent Olympics had 10,000 athletes. At the Chiropractic Symposium, Dr. John Maltby, ICA President (left) gave Arnold a large card signed by the chiropractors in attendance. In response the Governor commented, "Thank you very much. You (referring to Dr. Maltby and the Chiropractors present) said that you have given me a lot of things like statues, and trophies and crystal things, but I just want to say that the most important thing that you have given me is your friendship and I really appreciate it and thank you very much." At both the ICA Symposium, and onstage in front of thousands during the main Arnold Fitness bodybuilding events, Governor Schwarzenegger honored Dr. Franco Columbu, a Chiropractor and one of Arnold's closest friends. Arnold told the chiropractic group that he met Franco Columbu on October 3,1 1965, in Germany. The Arnold Fitness website noted, "The Arnold Schwarzenegger Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Franco Columbu by Governor Schwarzenegger. Dr. Franco Columbu has won all the major bodybuilding and powerlifting titles in the world, including Mr. Olympia twice. He is also a doctor of chiropractic and an expert in Sports Medicine and Kinesiology. Columbu has starred in and produced numerous feature films." With Arnold at his side (picture above), the International Chiropractors Association also presented Dr. Columbu with the "Crystal Award" signifying a lifetime of service to the chiropractic profession and the health and fitness of people around the word. Arnold himself is a previous recipient of this award. Dr. Columbu is also a member of the California Chiropractic Board of Examiners as is Dr. Hugh Lubkin, (right side of above picture) who was also in attendance. |

Fitness" in conjunction with the "Arnold Classic" and
Arnold has come to the chiropractic event to speak to
the chiropractors and take pictures with every
chiropractor in attendance. Arnold and his family are
supporters of chiropractic and have received
chiropractic care for years.|
Chiropractors Appointed to the Advisory Board of HealthCorps
Having chiropractors appointed to this highly visible position is good for both our profession and for the public at large. Drs. Lori and Michael Smatt, (Now You Know subscribers, www.chirotime.com) have asked for assistance from the chiropractic profession to help make the program a success and to increase the chiropractic exposure. We have published their letter below and urge all DCs to lend a helping hand.
Since Chiropractic will now be in the HealthCorps curriculum, Drs. Smatt are looking for ideas of how you would like Chiropractic presented on The Dr. Oz Show (A new informative talk show coming soon). They have been asked by Harpo Productions to summarize ideas they might have for the television show. Drs. Smatt are asking chiropractors to submit ideas for these TV shows to them for consideration. Found a Location for My Practice!
As you may remember I had previously rented a building but was unable to proceed as the owner had not paid his property taxes. Because of this I would have been unable to obtain a business license. This new property has no problems and I have already gotten my business license. The folks at New Beginnings have asked me to create a blog and keep a record of the events of the opening of my practice so that students and new doctors can learn from my experiences. You can see this blog and read about my ups and downs of opening a practice by going to the New Beginnings website (www.nbchiro.com) and clicking on the "Braile's Blog" item on their website. I will be making semi regular entries into this blog on the progress of starting and growing a practice. I plan to use the services of Now You Know to maximize the exposure of the office and as a health information resource for the community. One of the first and ongoing items is to collect as many email addresses from people and local businesses as I can. I plan to enter them into my NYK Newsletter list so that they receive our monthly newsletter. |
