CCE Trying to Destroy Chiropractic As We Know It
URGENT ACTION REQUIRED!
The Council on Chiropractic Education
(CCE) is considering dramatically revised new standards
for chiropractic institutions that fundamentally alter
the focus of chiropractic education by the proposed
removal of virtually every chiropractic-specific
definition and requirement. While there are
many issues that should concern every principled
chiropractor, there are four key changes we strongly
believe must be reversed. These are:
-
A
proposal to expand the degree programs accredited by
the CCE beyond the D.C. degree to “equivalent” degree
offerings.
-
The
elimination of any and all references to the concept
of subluxation, vertebral subluxation, or vertebral
subluxation complex.
-
The
elimination of the section addressing the “Purpose of
Chiropractic Education” which includes the references
to the profession being oriented toward health care
“without the use of drugs and surgery.”
-
The
modification of the term and definition of
“Chiropractic primary care physician.”
If the proposed standards, which are
scheduled to take effect in 2012, are adopted we would
be nothing more than a glorified manual therapist.
Nowhere do the proposed Standards define
chiropractic. They could be for nursing, dental,
physical therapy or even medical education. This would
represent a major step backward for the
chiropractic profession and open the door for a dramatic
re-direction of chiropractic in a medical direction.

CCE is accepting comments from the field
and you have a personal opportunity to make your voice
heard on these critical changes. CCE has provided a
format through which to submit your comments via fax. Click
here to print out a faxable comment form.
DO IT NOW. You
cannot wait to see who else will do this. The future of
the profession does rest in your hands.
It is vitally important that you carefully follow the
instructions for comments provided by CCE in order to
make certain that your thoughts and concerns are
received and taken into consideration. Once you have
completed your comments form, again following the exact
instructions, forward it to CCE by fax to:

Life
West has
provided an
excellent comparison of the
proposed and current educational standards of the
Council On Chiropractic Education.
Dr. Clum sums up his following concerns by noting that
the
items in the CCE Standards revision indicate an attempt
to move the profession as follows:
a. Toward the Doctor of Chiropractic
Medicine perspective
b. Away from the use of the term subluxation
c. Toward the inclusion of drug therapy
d. Away from being a drugless discipline
e. Toward a generalized common definition of primary
care as used in primary medicine.
f. Away from any definition of chiropractic and what a
chiropractor does.
Here
are some tips to filling in the
CCE comment form:
Field
1) Please indicate you are a FIELD PRACTITIONER (DC)
Field 2) You can LEAVE BLANK
Field 3) Add your own general comments (see points a-f
from Dr. Clum above)...be specific and clear
Field 4) You can LEAVE BLANK
Field 5) Add your personal information
Remember, the
deadline for submitting your comments is September 24,
2010 so ACT TODAY!
Chiropractic News Service (CNS) Free Waiting Room
Education
The Chiropractic News
Service, (CNS) was born out of a practical need for good
news-quality education in my office. As many of you know
I opened an office a little over a year ago. One of my
first desires was to have a flat screen TV in my waiting
room for my new patient orientations.
Shortly thereafter,
it dawned on me to use that flat screen for some form of
education that would play all day. So I started to make Power Point slides that could continuously play. In
making these slides I
quickly found myself using the NYK Newsletter articles
that were on my NYK website. It occurred to me that
it would be really nice if I did not have to manually
make slides, or have to update them regularly. It would
be much better if there was some way to have the
articles automatically appear on the screen along with
other information and the messages I wanted.
The next natural
progression was to ask some of the "techs" at NYK if they
could make such a service as a live feed. The rest,
as they say, is history. Today I, and many other NYK
website subscribers, enjoy this live feed service as the
Chiropractic News Service plays continuously in
our "education rooms". This is one service
that was truly born out of a practical need in a
chiropractic office.

To see a
video about all the features of the CNS, please click on the image
above, or go to our website at
www.nowyouknow.net,
and look at the features under the website service.
Remember, the CNS is included at NO additional charge
with your NYK website service.
"Just when I thought I was out...They pull me back
in!"
If you are a Godfather
aficionado as I am, you will recall the above
memorable quote by Michael Corleone in Godfather III.
The scene is of a reluctant Godfather, who is brought
back into the leadership of the Cosa Nostra he was
trying to retire from. Now, I'm not comparing a
chiropractic organization with the Mafia, but to me, the parallels of
Don Corleone's famous line and my situation are real.
This past month, I had the privilege of being elected president of the Georgia
Council of Chiropractic. And although I may have
attempted to retire from chiropractic politics several
times, I am truly honored and grateful to be called upon
to serve. I see this
new challenge as an opportunity to apply the skills I
have learned in my over 30 years in chiropractic
organizations to a group that I see as a rising star.
Below is a picture of the
new leadership core of the GCC. Click on the picture to
go to the GCC website and see some of the exciting new
programs that have been initiated. One such program is a
one day program called "Nuts
and Bolts". This new program has some of the highest
volume, successful doctors sharing their practice
procedures in an affordable one-day program with doctors
and your entire office. Even if you are not from
Georgia, this is a seminar well worth attending. And for
only $149 for the entire office, this one's a no
brainer. Check out the
GCC
website for more details.

I am no stranger to
chiropractic politics. Over the years I have been
blessed to serve as president of the Brevard County
Chiropractic Society, Vice President of the Florida
Chiropractic Society, President of the Florida Academy
of Chiropractic, and President and Chairman of the Board
of the International Chiropractors Association. Although
I had no aspirations to seek office again, when you have the
experience that I have, and the desire to serve, you do get pulled back in.
