New Features Coming to Now You Know Services
Now You Know is adding some impressive new features to our main services in 2003. These new services will help you get even more out of your website and newsletter service, and make you an even better communicator of chiropractic with the public.
Our Website Service: Kicking off in January 2003 subscribers to our website service will be able to update certain portions of their websites in real time themselves. This means that you will be able to make changes instantly! This gives you the ability to post daily announcements, office news, or other time sensitive events immediately. Of course, for those who would rather not, we still have a full complement of skilled webmasters ready to make updates for you. But for those who want to make simple quick announcements or updates, this new feature will be a quick and efficient way to stay up-to-the-minute with your web updates. Check our website in the coming weeks for more information on this new feature.
Our Newsletter Service: Also starting in January 2003 subscribers to our newsletter service will be able to send out their own email announcements using their patient list in addition to the monthly Now You Know Newsletter we currently send out. For years we have been encouraging doctors to supplement our Now You Know newsletters with information they create themselves or find elsewhere on the Internet. The only problem has been that sending a self made mailing to a large list does not always work. In many instances Internet Service Providers (ISPs) limit the number of addresses that an email can be sent to or from to a maximum of 25. In these cases many of the recipients on your list may never receive it.
With our new NYK Newsletter feature, you will be able to send one secure email to one address and that email will be propagated to your entire patient email list so that each person gets a single email from you. This allows you to easily and securely send messages out to your entire patient base as often as you need to. This new feature is revolutionary, and will make NYK Newsletter subscribers the most up-to-date professionals in healthcare.
With all of these changes there will be a slight increase in our fee structure. There will be an increase in our one time initial fees. Current subscribers, or those who join before January 1, 2003 will not be affected by this as these fees are only when you initially subscribe to our services. If you have been waiting, now is the time to subscribe to our services, before the increase in January. In spite of the great new features, and ever increasing content, our monthly subscription service for the websites will remain the same! Due to the increased bandwidth requirements of the new self-mailing feature of the newsletter service, our monthly subscription for the newsletter will increase by $10 per month. However, subscribers to our website and newsletter service will be automatically updated to our premium package with included Echiropractic, and the fee for that will remain the same as it has been in the past.
The bottom line is that subscribers can get all three NYK services with all the new features for the same monthly subscription rate as last year!.

New
Chiropractic Shopping Site "ChiropracticDepot.com" Opens
A new website, www.chiropracticdepot.com has opened for business. This new website is intended to feature supplies and equipment to help chiropractors and those involved with chiropractic have better access to the tools and services they need to grow and reach more people.
One of the first products offered
on
this site at a greatly reduced price are two versions of highly versatile and
easily transportable display
booths. These two displays are perfect for chiropractic vendors who
regularly go to shows and for chiropractors who do screenings or other
presentations. They come in two
sizes, the larger ShowMax display and the smaller
ShowStyle version. The ShowMax folds up completely into a self contained
rolling suitcase that can be easily brought with you to any event.

Life University News
The following are snippets and news items concerning the ongoing issues surrounding Life University. As time goes on the issues seem to expand and more players are involved. The student resource site, www.dc2be.com has kept an ongoing record of news stories and releases on this issue from the media and the various parties involved.
Life Chooses New President.
Life University has announced a new president. He is a professional educator and administrator by the name of Ben C. DeSpain. Dr. DeSpain comes to Life from the University of Tennessee - Martin, where he served as Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences for the past two years. Dr. DeSpain began his career in education as a high school principal in Virginia before going on to serve as superintendent at a number of progressively larger school districts in Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana and Kentucky. CCE Tells Life They Cannot Apply for Reaccredidation Until June 2004
In a move that stunned officials at Life University, the CCE announced that Life University would not even be eligible to re-apply for accreditation until June 2004 at the earliest. This move destroys the hope most remaining students had in being able to remain and wait for accreditation at Life. This announcement also activated the group "Doctors for Excellence in Chiropractic Education" (DECE). This group is planning action on this issue. Special group Doctors for Excellence in Chiropractic Education (DECE) Release Information on CCE
Doctors for Excellence in Chiropractic Education (DECE) is a group made up of Life alumni, and supporters of conservative chiropractic who feel that the CCE's actions were far outside the realm of academic issues that were present at Life. The damage done to our profession, the thousands of students and the area of Life University itself, was not called for, but was a direct effect of the CCE action. Additionally, CCE has also levied an attack on the Palmer and Cleveland Colleges. The actions of the CCE indicate an organization that is unchecked and non-accountable. The doctors of DECE are actively mobilizing to fight the injustices of the CCE and may well work toward the establishment of a new agency. Sid Williams Calls for Federal Investigation
Dr. Sid Williams, founder and former president of Life University has openly called for a federal investigation of CCE's action related to Life University's revocation of accreditation and the denial of reapplication for almost 2 years. This marks the first open public statements released by Dr. Williams since leaving the presidency after CCE removed the schools accreditation. Now that the Board of Trustees has selected a new president it is time for us all to get behind the school and support their fight to regain accreditation and regain the status and enrollment they once enjoyed. I fully support Dr. DeSpain in his efforts. He seems to be a fighter who will put forth the effort and leadership to help the school get back on its feet.
As most of you know I had submitted my name for consideration of that position. I appreciate the over 100 letters and emails supporting my efforts in this area. This made me feel honored for the work I have done over the years in our profession. I thank all of you very much.
I did finally receive a letter from the search committee long after the appointment of the new president. Prior to this letter there had not been any communications between the Life search committee and myself. The letter recently sent to me did inform me of their decision by saying they had "terminated your candidacy."
As much as I am singularly impressed with Dr DeSpain as a fighter and leader, I also realize that their seems to be a trend of appointing non-chiropractors to be the presidents of chiropractic colleges. I must ask what message we are sending to the academic community and the general public when we are saying that our own doctors of chiropractic are not the best qualified individuals for the leadership of our schools. I understand that there were several chiropractors who had applied for consideration for the leadership of Life. Since none of them were selected it appears that the CCE has been effective in their efforts to drive the educational component of our profession away from the traditional principles that makes chiropractic a unique offering to the world.

thank the many associations, organizations and groups that have us on their
programs speaking. Dates permitting, we would love to participate at your
Association or Society convention as well . Presently we are booking many dates
for 2003. As our calendar fills up we may not be able to present at your event.
We have been offering many subjects from Internet usage to patient education, to
current news and research on chiropractic and subluxation. We have two versions
that can be presented either for CE credit or without CE credit. Typically we
can offer up to 8 hours for continuing education, (we do not do the CE
applications, must be done through society or chiropractic college).
