OUR
HEARTS DESIRE
By Michael La Rocca D.C.
There is an Indian story about a traveler
in search of work. This traveler comes upon a construction crew and
excitedly asks the job supervisor for work. The supervisor says, sure we
have work for you. Go and roll this boulder up and down the hill until
your done working. The traveler says, no you don’t understand. I need
money. The supervisor replies sure I can give you money but you can’t
spend it. The traveler becomes frustrated and begins to speak between
sobs. I need food, clothing and shelter for my family. The supervisor
responds back to the traveler, oh I now understand. You may go to the
company buffet but you can’t eat. You can go to the company clothing
store but you can’t ware the clothes and you can have the company house
but you can’t live in it. The traveler with the emotions of anger,
stress and clinched fists is ready to attack the supervisor, suddenly
pauses. His eyes widen and the corners of his mouth turn up as he comes
to understand what the supervisor is teaching. He realizes he was not
searching for material things but rather for a feeling of fulfillment, a
sense of satisfaction and peace of mind.
I have come to know that we are all
travelers in search of many apparent physical things but our search
continues once we attain the desired objects. If those objects were
truly our hearts desire then why is it we still want bigger, faster,
shinier and brighter things? If we
chiropractors, who are financially able to attain these things still
don’t find lasting joy than what of the majority of our patients. What
degree of frustration might they experience?
As supervisors of health, it is our
purpose to share enlightenment with patients. They come to us with
various symptoms and we relate those symptoms to spinal subluxations. We
expand on this idea and look beyond the symptom and adjust to unite mans
innate with universal spirit, to become whole. Our travelers, whose
lives have become trapped in a physical mind set through generations of
physical existence. They live from one hope and wish to the next with
some degree of physical impairment.
All life has the potential for suffering.
Our patients unknowingly seek ease, just as the traveler seeking work,
to become whole. The feeling of fulfillment, satisfaction and peace of
mind are powerful motivators and easily become attainable once we know
what our end point is.
As we become clearer in our vision, we
can share it with our patients. With each patient taking control of
their health, they will not only be physically well but at peace. It is
when we become less attached, that we begin to enjoy life.
The adjustment with the extra special
something takes on a grander meaning. We become on with our patients and
those we meet throughout our life path. We can help each other to be
fulfilled when we know where our path is leading us. Many times our
friends and patients don’t know what they really want. They have a
misunderstanding of symptoms and events. Only when we begin to enlighten
them to their true path does our own path become clearer. Our joy and
peace spreads to others we meet. It is difficult to stay angry when we
are with a friend filled with energy. Our outlook brightens and we too
begin to smile. Our habits then come
into play whether we fall back to gloom and doom or stay on our new
path. We are in total control of our attitude and can begin to change at
any moment we choose.
How simple the life experience is. How
simple it is for us to make it complicated with expectations. When we
are grateful for what we have and where we are we become unattached to
results. We truly live in the moment and find peace, satisfaction and
fulfillment in even the smallest of daily events. We then begin to take
on the smell of the rose. We are the rose.
The One
Cause…….One Cure ……Explained
Dr.
Skip George, Chiropractor
Many chiropractors either invalidated BJ
Palmer’s One Cause One Cure statement, or totally have misinterpreted
this statement causing considerable confusion within our chiropractic
profession. In my opinion, the split within the chiropractic profession
was fueled by this statement.
Many
of the chiropractors believed that BJ Palmer meant that all loss of
health will only occur from an established vertebral subluxation. By
correcting the vertebral subluxation, the body will heal itself, and
health and wellness is restored.
Other chiropractors thought it to be
insane for BJ Palmer to make a statement of One Cause One Cure for all
loss of health within the systems of the body. So they invalidated the
entire statement without further investigation.
While others thought that the One Cause
One Cure statement meant that the vertebral subluxation started the loss
of health, but the body’s conditions also needed outside approaches as
long as it was considered natural. I always wondered who considers what
a natural approach is.
The bottom line is that the vertebral
subluxation concept was never implied in the context of the One Cause
One Cure statement. Let me explain. When one organ doesn’t do its job as
well or not at all, this organ will cause stress to the other organs of
the body. So now another organ is affected, but these 2 others organs
are now affected by that organ, and so on and so on. Now you have 10
symptoms showing up. The patient goes to the medical doctor, and the
doctor diagnosis that this patient has 8 heath care problems, so the
doctor treats each of these conditions separately with the use of 8
medical drugs or more.
The One Cause One Cure statement was made
by BJ Palmer to clarify the misconceptions of the medical diagnosis and
approach. The One Cure One Cause statement was made to explain that the
patient did not have 8 health conditions, but only one. That all those
symptoms that the patient was experiencing were all related, and that
the body is under stress due to an organ not doing its job as well or
not at all. The premise of this statement was based on that every organ
of the body is essential to the adaptability, healing and functioning
processes of the body. There is no organ that works by itself for its
own benefit. All cells, tissues, organs, and systems work for the common
good of the entire human body. In plain words, the body is not diseased,
but rather DIS-EASED. The body isn’t function in harmony nor is it in a
relaxed state of health.
The One Cure One Cause was never based on
the vertebral subluxation, but rather the state within the human body.
The One Cause occurs only when the body’s inability to adapt to the
external or internal environment happens. The One Cure is that the human
body is a self regulating; self adapting; and self healing organism.
It’s logical for the chiropractic
profession to ONLY address the vertebral subluxation that causes
interference within the communication system of the body. The nerve
system is the common denominator that unites and organizes the human
body through Innate Intelligence use of the nerve system to control and
coordinate all bodily functions adapting the body to the external and
internal environments for its survival. This is why it is so important
for the reduction and elimination of the vertebral subluxation to occur
for the benefit of better communication between cells, tissue, organs,
and systems of the body. The result will be a better relaxed state and
harmony within the bodily functions so that true healing, adapting,
coordination, wellness, and health can be obtained and maintained.
Be a chiropractor that owns the One Cause
One Cure inside of you. That you the chiropractor know that your only
objective is to reduce or eliminate the vertebral subluxation, and the
Innate Intelligence will do what is needed to regain harmony within the
cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the body. To always realize that
all healing must come from the Innate Intelligence within the body.
Innate Intelligence knows what is wrong; what it needs to do; it just
doesn’t want any interference within the nerve communication system of
the body.
Do not chase symptoms; do not judge what
the body needs or doesn’t need; just understand and own that principle
of One Cause One Cure. Owning and understanding the One Cause One Cure
statement, you will always know that you have done everything you could
do through administrating a specific spinal adjustment to help the body
in the processes of life.
